“Put together but doesn’t look like you’ve tried too hard”
My first inspiration for this project was the ‘This is how we bite our tongue’ exhibition be Elmgreen & Dragset in Whitechapel, exploring ideas around gentrification. This in turn got me thinking about changes in society, and lead me onto more current social changes that could have more of an imapct on fashion and women, Following on from the ‘Me Too’ movement there has been a big focus on ‘women’, not only on sexual harassment but also equal pay & power to women. In this project I wanted to explore ideas around femininity, & restraints women face in day to day life. I was inspired by the comfort & luxury of interiors, product design & fashion from the early 90’x, in stark contrast to the restraint of straight jackets.
